In 2008, Martín Londoño suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident, which made him a permanent wheelchair user. With his adrenaline-pumping spirit, he decided in 2016 that it was time to change the way people with limited mobility experience the world. This is how the idea of MATT (Mobility, Accessibility, Time and Work) was born.

Inspired by his passion for motorcycles and bicycles, Martín created his own device, an electric wheelchair tow vehicle, with the help of EcoCycle. The intention was not only to provide freedom of movement, but also to empower empowerment and work.

MATT's vision to change the perception of mobility devices was evident from day one. Unlike conventional devices that are seen as tools for sick people, MATT was intended to be something more, something that symbolized independence and style.

On his trip, Martín joined Simón Echavarría and Federico Alfonso to document the social exclusion faced by people with reduced mobility, soon joined by Mariano García. In June 2020, MATT was officially founded with the purpose of “improving the quality of life for people with reduced mobility”.

Over time, MATT has evolved to address social exclusion more broadly. MATT Experiencias emerged, an initiative to show the city from a new perspective and highlight the physical, mental and systematic barriers that people with reduced mobility face on a daily basis.

In its brief history, MATT has had significant accomplishments. We developed the sixth version of our vehicle and have been recognized on numerous occasions:

1. We were nominated for the Innovation of the Year award at the Geneva Health Forum 2022.
2. We received recognition from the Medellín Mayor's Office for our work in promoting independent living in 2022.
3. We won the Medellín Smart Tourist Destination award in the area of accessibility from the Mayor's Office of Medellín in 2021.
4. We were winners of the call for sustainable mobility in the metropolitan area in 2022.
5. We were in the top 5 for Lafiya Innovators 2021 Swiss Immersion.
6. We were in the top 10 for the Netherlands Immersion 2021 OpenUp.
7. We have been featured in more than 20 press articles, which you can explore in the links below.
8. We participated in a public mobility pilot for people with reduced mobility together with the Metropolitan Area, EAFIT and Ruta N.
9. Awarded the style note granted by the Medellin council in 2023.

Looking ahead, MATT has big plans. We will focus on expanding to more countries, exporting our products, and continuing our mission to help people with reduced mobility live fuller, more empowered lives. We firmly believe that mobility is a human right and we are determined to do everything we can to make it a reality for everyone.
