MEDELLÍN, Colombia (AP) — Wilson Guzmán lost the use of his legs at age 17 when he was shot in the back trying to recover a stolen bicycle in Medellín.
Two decades later, he gets around town using a wheelchair attached to an electric front wheel. He recently led a guided tour of Medellin parks in which seven people followed him down the bike lanes, up steep sections in vehicles similar to his.
“Everyone who gets on these chairs leaves here with a smile,” Guzmán said. “And they also put themselves in the position of a disabled person.”
